GM Le Quang Liem to play tie-break at FIDE World Cup

Vietnam’s top chess player Le Quang Liem will take part in a play-off match after second draw at the FIDE World Cup's first round in the town of Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s top chess player Le Quang Liem will take part in a play-offmatch after second draw at the FIDE World Cup's first round in the town of Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

Grandmaster Liem (Elo2708) tied with GM AleksejAleksandrov (Elo 2577) of Belarus after 36 moves. They also drewin the first match of this round.

They will play a rapidgame to identify the winner who will advance to the second round of 64 players.

Meanwhile, Liem'steammate Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (Elo 2638) lost to talented Kirill Alekseenko (Elo2671) of the host countryafter 49 moves.

Son was eliminated fromthe tournament but earned a bonus of 6,000 USD./.
