Ten students are reported to have contracted A/H1N1 flu virus through a recent outbreak at Pha Le Primary School, Thuy Nguyen district, northern Hai Phong City.

Director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology Nguyen Tran Hien confirmed the outbreak of the pandemic at the weekly meeting of the National Steering Committee for A/H1N1 Pandemic Prevention on Jan. 20.

“The provincial health sector confirmed 72 students as exhibiting A/H1N1 flu symptom among the school’s 400 students. However, only 10 students are confirmed to have been infected with the virus” said Hien.

“The cases are not that serious. Most of them were isolated at home, with only three of the children admitted to hospital”, said Hien.

The provincial health department isolated all the school students and teachers and decontaminated the school.

The Ministry of Health on Jan.20 reported three more swine flu fatalities in the north, including one man in Y Yen district, Nam Dinh province and two children from Thai Binh and Lang Son provinces who died at the National Hospital of Paediatrics.

The country has so far reported a total of 56 fatalities among 11,166 A/H1N1 flu positive cases nationwide.

The ministry also warned of a return of cholera after the An Phu Hospital in southern An Giang provinces saved the lives of three Cambodians who have been admitted to hospital in a serious condition,

The ministry asked the HCM City Pasteur Institute staff to help the provincial heath department quarantine and control the outbreak./.
