Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committees of Hanoi and Tuyen Quang on February 3 held conferences to guide the collection of voters' comments and confidence votes in residential areas for candidates for the 16th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term, and to agree on preliminary candidate lists.

At the Hanoi conference, Standing Vice President of the Hanoi VFF Committee Tran Thi Phuong Hoa stressed that within the consultation and nomination process, gathering voter comments and confidence assessments at candidates’ places of residence is of particular importance, serving as a practical basis for evaluating nominees’ political integrity, ethics, lifestyle and relations with the people.

Earlier, on February 2, the Hanoi VFF Committee held its second consultative conference to reach agreement on preliminary lists of candidates for the 16th NA and the 17th Hanoi People’s Council. Based on this outcome, the committee issued an official dispatch sending summary profiles of 53 NA candidates and 248 others for the city People’s Council to VFF committees of relevant communes, wards, provinces, cities, for the organisation of voter consultations.

The Standing Board of the Hanoi VFF Committee requested VFF committees at grassroots level to proactively develop plans and organise voter meetings at places of residence with the right participants, ensuring progress and quality, while strengthening coordination, promptly informing meeting schedules and submitting minutes immediately after completion.

Through the conference, participants gained a clear understanding of requirements, procedures and methods for organising voter consultations at places of residence, helping ensure consistency in grassroots implementation and that the consultation process is conducted rigorously and in accordance with regulations.

At a similar conference in Tuyen Quang, the provincial VFF Committee reported on the overall situation of candidate nominations for the 20th provincial People’s Council. As of February 1, a total of 104 individuals had been nominated, with the nomination process carried out democratically and transparently.

Based on the results of the first consultative conference, Tuyen Quang is to elect 10 deputies to the 16th NA, including six residing and working in the locality and four introduced by central agencies. Under regulations, the minimum number of nominees is 14. As of February 1, the province had introduced 14 candidates for the 16th NA, all meeting the standards and conditions set out in the Law on Elections of Deputies to the NA and People’s Councils.

All participants at the conference unanimously voted to establish preliminary lists of 103 candidates for the 20th provincial People’s Council and 14 others for the 16th NA for the 2026–2031 term./.
