Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap hold second consultative conferences

Ho Chi Minh City is preparing for the third consultative conferences to finalise the official lists of eligible candidates, scheduled for February 10.

Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) - The Standing Board of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee in Ho Chi Minh City on February 3 convened its second consultative conferences to agree on the preliminary lists of candidates for the 16th National Assembly (2026–2031) and the 11th municipal People’s Council (2026–2031).

At the consultative conference on NA candidates, delegates reviewed and unanimously approved a preliminary list of 60 candidates, of them 52 nominated by agencies, organisations and units, and eight self-nominated.

Ho Chi Minh City has 13 constituencies for the NA election and is allocated 38 seats. Under regulations, the required number of candidates is 64.

At the consultative conference on candidates for the 11th municipal People’s Council, delegates unanimously approved a preliminary list of 221 candidates (one person from the list of 222 candidates withdrew). The city has 42 constituencies for the municipal People’s Council election, with 125 seats to be filled, while the regulated number of candidates is 208.

Following the conferences, the municipal VFF Committee organised a meeting the same day to guide the collection of voters’ comments and confidence opinions at candidates' residence.

The city is also preparing for the third consultative conferences to finalise the official lists of eligible candidates, scheduled for February 10.

On the same day, the Dong Thap provincial VFF Committee held its second consultative conferences to agree on preliminary lists of candidates for the 16th NA and the provincial People’s Council for the 2026–2031 term.

Delegates unanimously approved a preliminary list of 24 NA candidates for Dong Thap, all of whom received 100% confidence and raised no issues requiring verification. No self-nominated candidates have been recorded so far. The conference also adopted a draft plan for collecting voters’ comments and confidence opinions.

At a separate second consultative conference, the provincial VFF Committee unanimously approved a preliminary list of 144 candidates for the Dong Thap provincial People’s Council for the 2026–2031 term and endorsed the plan to seek voters’ feedback. To date, there have been no self-nominated candidates for the provincial People’s Council./.
