The Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Election of Deputies to the National Assembly and Deputies to People’s Councils was passed on June 24, 2025, by the 15th National Assembly at its 9th session.
The Law on Election of Deputies to the National Assembly and Deputies to People’s Councils which was passed on June 25, 2015, by the 13th National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at its 9th session.
Resolution 262, adopted by the National Assembly on December 11, 2025, approves the investment policy for the National Target Programme on Health Care, Population and Development for the 2026–2035 period. One of the programme’s overarching goals is to ensure that, during 2026–2035, all citizens in Vietnam are provided with primary healthcare, with disease prevention carried out early, remotely and at the grassroots level, thereby reducing the burden of illness.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vu Hong Thanh stressed the importance of ensuring the quality and capacity of candidates, given Dien Bien’s large geographical area and growing workload.

National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai, who is also a member of the National Election Council, called on Ca Mau authorities to ensure local communes and wards regularly update and clearly post voter lists as required, ensure timely allocation of funds for the grassroots level, maintain public safety and order, and provide social welfare support for those eligible, especially as the Lunar New Year holiday draws near.
National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong, member of the National Election Council, asked Quang Tri to continue implementing all steps in line with legal regulations, including establishing election teams within the timeframe prescribed in the election law, and organising the 2nd and 3rd consultative conferences to finalise the lists of candidates no later than February 20, 2026.
In Ca Mau, 13 candidates have been introduced for the National Assembly, 73 for the provincial People’s Council, and 1,469 for commune-level People’s Councils. The provincial election committee has designated five NA constituencies and 18 constituencies for People’s Councils at provincial and commune levels.
A major focus will be preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and to People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. The NASC will coordinate with the National Election Council, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and relevant agencies and organisations to continue implementing the election plan, organise oversight of the electoral process, and carry out its duties and powers as prescribed.
The Party Committee of Phu Tho province has established a 27-member steering committee for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
A national ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s first general election was held in Hanoi on January 6.
Exactly 80 years ago, on January 6, 1946, a landmark event in Vietnam’s history took place as Vietnamese people, for the first time, exercised their right through the ballot to directly choose and elect capable and virtuous representatives to shoulder the affairs of the nation. The success of the General Election marked the birth of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, today the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
On January 6, 2026, in Hanoi, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the State President, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee held a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the first General Election to elect the Vietnam National Assembly (January 6, 1946 – 2026).
Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Do Van Chien said all preparatory work must be carried out with urgency and solemnity.
The plan also aims to ensure that the elections are conducted in a democratic, equal and law-abiding manner, while being safe and cost-effective, truly becoming a nationwide civic event, thus contributing to strengthening and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the state apparatus and building a socialist rule-of-law state of Vietnam of the people, by the people and for the people.
Highlighting key positive aspects of the preparation process so far, the top legislator pointed to the strong, coordinated engagement of agencies from the central to local levels, swift yet methodical progress, particularly in finalising documents, developing organisational plans and drafting resolutions on electoral units.
The outcomes of the upcoming National Assembly and People's Council elections will be critical to upholding democracy, reinforcing great national unity, fostering public trust, and ensuring the success of comprehensive national renewal, and the process of building and safeguarding the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as well.
