Thorough preparations underway for 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s first general election

Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member and Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Do Van Chien, Head of the Organising Committee for the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s first general election to the NA, chaired a meeting in Hanoi on December 30 to finalise preparations for the commemoration, scheduled to take place on January 6, 2026.

Addressing the meeting, Chien stressed that all preparatory work must be carried out with urgency and solemnity. He called for accelerated development of the communications plan for the period before, during and after the ceremony, to highlight the legislature as a symbol of the great national unity bloc and its close bond with the people.

All logistical arrangements must be fully in place, with contingency plans prepared to deal with any unexpected situations, he noted.

At the meeting, NA Secretary General and Chairman of the NA Office Le Quang Manh presented a report on preparations for the anniversary. Participants focused discussions on organisational plans, operational scenarios, information and communications work, security, protocol and related matters.

The event is of significant political importance, providing an opportunity for the entire Party, people and armed forces to reflect on the history of the formation and development of the NA since the milestone of the first general election on January 6, 1946. It will also recognise the contributions, achievements and lessons learned over the past 80 years in the cause of building, developing and safeguarding the Socialist Republic of Vietnam through the nation’s revolutionary stages./.
