HCM City (VNA) – A mass Vovinam martial arts performance featuring 60,000 students in Ho Chi Minh City has set a new world record as the city marked the 50th anniversary of its education and training sector on November 30.

The municipal Department of Education and Training coordinated with the Vietnam Vovinam Federation to organise the large-scale performance, which brought together 5,000 students performing in person at the Saigon Riverside Park in An Khanh ward, and another 55,000 students joining online from more than 150 schools across the city.

The World Records Union (WorldKings) presented a certificate recognising the event as the world’s largest hybrid mass Vovinam martial arts and music performance involving students. The Vietnam Records Organisation (VietKings) also certified it as the largest of its kind in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said the performance was not only remarkable for its scale but also demonstrated the solidarity, creativity, and aspirations of students in the southern metropolis. The dual world and national records, he said, reaffirmed HCM City’s pioneering and innovative role in education reform.

He added that the event helped inspire young people to preserve and promote the unique values of Vovinam, helping to raise the profile of the traditional martial arts on the global stage.

In recent years, Vovinam has been integrated into school curricula nationwide, with HCM City emerging as a leading locality in both effectiveness and widespread adoption. Thuong called on the city’s education sector to push forward with comprehensive reforms, particularly by expanding and improving school sports clubs and strengthening the link between physical education, lifestyle education, and life skills development.

This, he noted, will help students develop not only physical strength but also national pride, discipline, teamwork, and a strong sense of community responsibility./.
