HCM City to host support industry mega-expo

A mega support industry event with three exhibitions is slated to be held in Ho Chi Minh City in October, promising to offer opportunities for local producers to update technologies as well as their management capacities.

Two exhibitions, Metalex Vietnam and Nepcon Vietnam,hosted by the Thailand-based Reed Tradex Company, will feature thelatest machine tools and metalworking technologies and assembly, as wellas measurement and testing technologies for electronics manufacturing.

Thenumber of registered exhibitors is expected to increase by 20 percentover last year's shows, with many national pavilions including Japan,Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Germany, the UK and Thailand, thecompany said.

The other exhibition "Business Alliance forSupporting Industry 2014", organised by the Japan External TradeOrganisation (JETRO) in HCM City and the HCM City Investment and TradePromotion Centre, will enable Vietnamese parts producers to meet withJapanese producers to seek business opportunities.

To take placeat the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre from October 9-11,visitors will also be able to gain new knowledge and networkingopportunities through seminars and other activities during the threeshows.

The ASEAN Economic Community, which is set to come intoexistence next year, brings both opportunities and challenges forVietnamese producers, said Duangdej Yuaikwarmdee, Deputy ManagingDirector of Reed Tradex.

To remain competitive, local companies must invest in modern technologies, he said.-VNA

Japanese retailers step up business activities in Vietnam

Aeon – Japan's largest retail group – plans to increase the number of hypermarkets, also known as "Super Supermarket (SSM)" and general merchandise stores (GMS) in Vietnam from 12 as of February 2025 to about 100 stores by 2030. Another large Japanese group, Sumitomo, also aims o open supermarkets in Vietnam, with about 10 stores per year.

Vietnamese banks have also proactively improved their image and position in the international arena. According to Brand Finance's 2025 rankings, 13 Vietnamese banks are now listed in the Top 500 banks with the highest brand value globally.
