Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia has lifted a ban on the Boeing 737 MAX since December 27 after the evaluation of changes to the aircraft's system by regulators, the Ministry of Transport said in a statement.

Indonesian director general of civil aviation Novie Riyanto said the grounding was lifted for all Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operated by domestic airlines in the country's airspace.

In March 2019, Indonesia issued the ban after the crash of one of the aircraft on October 29, 2018 operated by domestic carrier Lion Air, killing all 189 people on board.

Preliminary results of a related investigation indicated that a defect in the maneuvering characteristics augmentation system (MCAS) specifically designed for the 737 MAX series might be the cause of the accident./.
