Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al-Hussein have discussed the role played by Indonesia in helping Rohingya Muslim refugees who fled Myanmar for Bangladesh.

During a meeting with Al-Hussein in Jakarta on February 6, Widodo stressed Indonesia’s commitment to protecting human rights.

He also mentioned challenges in handling the issue, and highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in addressing human rights issues.

For his part, Al-Hussein called on Indonesia to make more efforts and devise solutions to the issue.

He said he hopes Indonesia can uphold its role as a major Muslim country in solving human rights issues.

At the meeting, the two sides also debated other matters, including revising Indonesia’s Penal Code.-VNA
