Jakarta (VNA) – Foreign Minister Sugiono will represent Indonesia at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on April 28–29, marking the Southeast Asian country's inaugural participation as an official member of the bloc.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the upcoming meeting will spotlight a range of global and regional issues, particularly politics and security, global governance reform, and the role of developing countries (the Global South) in promoting multilateralism.
The meeting will include discussions on preparations for the next BRICS Summit, scheduled for July 6–7 in Rio de Janeiro, with a special focus on the formulation of key documents.
The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is expected to result in a joint statement reaffirming member countries' shared commitments to politics, security, economy, development, global governance reform, and other critical issues.
At the summit, Sugiono will urge BRICS to play a more constructive role in maintaining peace and upholding universal norms. He also plans to accentuate the urgent need for reform across various multilateral institutions, calling for more inclusive, transparent, and responsive frameworks to address contemporary global challenges.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Sugiono is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his counterparts from other countries./.
