Vietnam’s information technology sector has become an economic andtechnological spearhead, contributing about 6.7 percent to the country’sGDP, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan.
Deputy PMNhan made the statement at a conference in Hanoi on December 3 toreview 10 years of implementing the Politbo’s Directive 58 on applyinginformation technology in national modernisation and industrialisationand implementing the project to turn Vietnam into a strong ITnation.
The Deputy PM highlighted the sector’s achievements overthe past decade, raising awareness on the role of IT and its importancein society and widely applying IT in various areas.
In addition,the sector formed an IT industry with rapid growth, promoting IT humanresource development, contributing to building a national trademark andprestige in terms of information technology as well as attracting directinvestment from strong countries, he added.
However, Deputy PMNhan pointed out limitations in applying IT in ministries andlocalities, in human resource development and infrastructure for ITdevelopment./.
