The visit took place just days after KualaLumpur said Tokyo has plans to help Malaysia issue yen-denominated bonds nextyear, as part of efforts to tackle its fiscal problem.
The two leaders also discussing challenges inthe region, including Korean denuclearisation and the East Sea issue, as wellas the possibility of bilateral cooperation in education and human resourcesdevelopment.
Malaysian Ambassador to Japan Ahmad Izlan Idrissaid the two PMs talked about Japan’s plan to buy bonds worth 1.77 billion USDissued by the Malaysian Government, the goal to develop a third Malaysian autofirm and the Look East policy.
Talking to the media following the talks, Abesaid Japan will consider Malaysia’s request for loans to invest intransportation, education, and human resources development projects.
A group of experts will be sent to Malaysialater this month to consider the plan.
Mahathir is on a three-day Japan visit, startingfrom November 5. It is the third time he has visited Japan since he becamegovernment leader for a second term in May. His two previous visits tookplace in June and August this year. –VNA
