Journalists honoured for anti-corruption efforts

A group of reporters from the Nhan Dan newspaper and one from the Nguoi lam bao magazine have won the top prizes at a national press contest promoting the fight against corruption and wastefulness.

Hanoi (VNA) - A group of reporters from the Nhan Dan (People) newspaper andone from the Nguoi lam bao (The Journalists) magazine have won the top prizesat a national press contest promoting the fight against corruption andwastefulness in the country.

Theawards ceremony in Hanoi on January 2 saw the presence of President Tran DaiQuang, who stressed the important role of press agencies and journalists infighting corruption and wastefulness.

The two prize-winning reportswere selected from more than 1,120 entries of different types of media,including print, online, radio and television from various news and mediaoutlets nationwide.

The awards also includedseven second-place winners and 10 third-place.

It was the first time the Vietnam Journalists’ Association cooperated with theCentral Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to organise such a contest ona national scale.

The contest aims to emphasise the role of the press in the anti-corruptionmovement.

It was open to both professional and amateur Vietnamese journalists in Vietnam andabroad. Each author or group of authors could submit a maximum of fiveworks. The works had to be published in Vietnamese media between January 1 andNovember 30, 2017. 

The contest was held under the authorisation of General Secretary of the CommunistParty of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong at a conference of the VietnamFatherland Front Central Committee held in the southern city of Can Tho to
make plans to implement a Resolution reached at the fourth plenum of the PartyCentral Committee.

The resolution was aimed at building and reorganising the Party, therebypromoting the participation of the people and the whole society, including thepioneering role of press in the fight against corruption and wastefulness.

At the awards ceremony, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the VietnamJournalists Association formally launched the 2018-19 round of the "PressPrize for the fight against corruption and wastefulness".-VNA

Vietnam delivers 3 tonnes of aid supplies to Myanmar earthquake victims

The aid package includes antibiotics, digestive medications, cold and flu remedies, and basic healthcare equipment like blood pressure monitors, blood glucose metres, bandages, and disinfectants. The supplies also feature mosquito spray pumps and insecticides to prevent disease outbreaks in affected areas.

Can Tho plans to eliminate run-down houses before reunification anniversary

According to Tran Phu Loc Thanh, Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment, work has started on all 531 houses designated for renovation or reconstruction, benefiting poor households, near-poor families, and people with meritorious service to the nation, with 141 homes already completed and handed over to beneficiaries.
