Vientiane (VNA) – Sounthone Sayachak, head of the Lao Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Vientiane on August 30 to offer greetings on the occasion of Vietnam’s 71st National Day (September 2).

The Party, State and people of Laos are proud of the major accomplishments achieved by the Vietnamese Party, State and people during the past 71 years, and consider them their own success, the Lao official told Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung.

Sounthone Sayachak expressed her joy at the development of the bilateral relations and asserted that the Lao Party, State and people will continue to do their best to foster the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Ambassador Hung said 2016 is a special year for Vietnam and Laos as both countries have successfully organised their Party Congresses and the elections for National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils.

The visits to Vietnam by Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachith, and Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, as well as Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang’s visit to Laos during the year also created a new momentum for the Vietnam-Laos relations, he stressed.

He thanked the Lao side for its decision to release water from its hydroelectric dams to help Vietnamese residents in the Mekong Delta region overcome consequences caused by salt intrusion and prolonged drought.

While congratulating Laos on achievements in the position of 2016 ASEAN Chairmanship, the ambassador said he believes that the country will successfully organise the ASEAN Summit and relevant meetings next month.

The same day, a delegation from the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party’s Central Committee Office led by vice chief Khamcot Vankham also offered greetings to the embassy on the occasion.-VNA
