Liem claims World Cup spot

Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem secured a place to compete inthe World Cup after drawing with local rival Oliver Barbosa in the lastmatch at the Asian Continental Chess Championships in the Philippineson May 26.

With a total of 6.5 points, Grandmaster Liem rankedfourth in the event, while Chinese GM Li Chao took the title with sevenpoints.

According to the Asian Chess Federation's regulation, theevent's top five will get tickets to the upcoming world tournament inNorway in August.

Vietnam now has three representatives atthe World Cup including Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and female chess playerNguyen Thi Thanh An.-VNA
