A delegation from the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Doosan Heavy Industries has worked with authorities of Ly Son island district in central Quang Ngai province on the installation of equipment to convert sea water into fresh water.

During the inspection tour on May 25, Deputy General Director of the Doosan Heavy Industries Viet Nam (Doosan Vina) Kim Jong Soo said the company sympathises with local people over the shortage of fresh water and will do their best to install the sea water desalination equipment to meet the islanders’ daily needs.

Vice Chairwoman of the Ly Son District People’s Committee Pham Thi Huong said that the district will create the most favourable conditions for Doosan Vina to install the equipment.

In mid November, 2009, Doosan Vina manufactured the first water desalination machine in Vietnam under an order from China and the equipment was later exported to the United Arab Emirates. The 4,000-tonne machine, worth 40 million USD, is capable of filtering around 75,000 cu.m of sea water per day./.
