Male body found near Vinh Xanh 58 boat capsizing site

The Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee reported that at noon on July 22, search and rescue forces discovered the body of a male near the area where the Vinh Xanh 58 tourist boat capsized, leaving three missing victims unaccounted for.

Quang Ninh (VNA) - The Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee reported that at noon on July 22, search and rescue forces discovered the body of a male near the area where the Vinh Xanh 58 tourist boat capsized, leaving three missing victims unaccounted for.

Through verification, the victim was identified as one of the three victims mising in the fatal tourist boat accident in Ha Long Bay on July 19.

So far, the maritime disaster has claimed the lives of 37 people, with 10 survivors rescued and two individuals still missing. Search and rescue operations are continuing under difficult conditions, as Quang Ninh is being affected by Typhoon Wipha, the third of its kind to enter East Sea this year.

Vinh Xanh 58, registration number QN-7105, departed from the Ha Long International Passenger Port in Bai Chay ward at around 1:30pm on July 19 with 49 people on board, including 46 passengers and three crew members.

It was en route along Tour Route 2 of Ha Long Bay when it was hit by a sudden, violent thunderstorm near Dau Go Cave, which capsized the boat within a few minutes, plunging dozens of passengers into the sea.

In a related development, the Insurance Management and Supervision Department under the Ministry of Finance has submitted a report to the ministry’s leaders on the damage, compensation, and insurance payouts related to the Vinh Xanh 58 boat capsizing incident.

According to the report, the total estimated insurance compensation and payouts amount to 14.27 billion VND (545,700 USD). In the non-life insurance sector, the total estimated compensation is about 4.2 billion VND. Of the total, civil liability insurance for the ship owner toward passengers and crew accident insurance, provided by Bao Long Insurance, is estimated at 1.2 billion VND. Passenger accident insurance, co-insured by Bao Viet, PTI, and MIC, is expected to pay out around 2 billion VND. AAA’s credit insurance coverage is estimated at VND 1 billion.

In the life insurance sector, the total expected payout is approximately 6.3 billion VND./.
