Ninh Binh (VNA) – The first Ninh Binh GM/IM/FM Chess Tournament 2025 opened on December 21 in the northern province of Ninh Binh.
Jointly organised by the provincial Department of Culture and Sports, the Sports Authority of Vietnam and the Vietnam Chess Federation, the tournament has attracted more than 100 players from India, the Republic of Korea, the US, Myanmar, Russia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and host nation Vietnam.
Nguyen Manh Cuong, Permanent Deputy Director of the Ninh Binh Department of Culture and Sports, said the tournament provides an opportunity for national teams to assess training outcomes and athlete development. It also offers favourable conditions for players, particularly Vietnamese competitors, to achieve international norms, improve their Elo ratings and enhance professional skills. The event also serves as a platform for athletes and teams to exchange experience, connect through their shared passion for sport, strengthen friendship and cooperation among countries, and highlight the positive values promoted by sports.
Organisers said participating teams have sent players with strong professional skills, solid techniques and competitive experience gained from domestic and international tournaments. The event is expected to deliver high-quality and engaging matches.
The tournament will run until December 27./.
