- Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and visiting Australian Governor-General David Hurley spoke of the building of a new cooperation framework during their meeting in Hanoi on April 4.

The Party chief called the Australian Governor-General’s State visit, which takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (1973-2023), an important event to further boost the strategic partnership between the two countries in the time ahead. Read full story

- Australian Governor-General David Hurley praised the Vietnamese blue beret force’s contributions and stressed the meaning of the Vietnam-Australia cooperation in the UN's peacekeeping mission when he and President Vo Van Thuong visited the headquarters of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations in Hanoi on April 4. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chinese Premier Li Qiang agreed on cooperation orientations between the two countries in the time ahead, during their phone talks on April 4.

The leaders consented to step up exchanges, coordination and efforts to advance the bilateral relations to a new development period, pledging to will direct ministries and localities in their respective countries to realise major common perceptions reached by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, particularly the joint statement on continuing to enhance and deepen the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership issued in November 2022. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking Government delegation of Vietnam arrived in Vientiane on April 4 evening to attend the fourth Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit slated for the next day.

He is scheduled to deliver an important speech at the summit’s plenary session, and hold bilateral and multilateral meetings with officials from MRC member states. Read full story

- Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh suggested the Mekong River Commission (MRC) focus on practical measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of residents who live on the river’s water resources, while addressing a ministers’ meeting in Vientiane, Laos, on April 4.

The meeting took place in preparation for the 4th MRC Summit with the attendance of representatives from member countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, the dialogue partners of China and Myanmar, development partners, and regional and international organisations. Read full story

- Vietnam attaches importance to and prioritises strengthening relations with Cambodia for the benefit of the two peoples, stated National Assembly (NA) Standing Vice Chairman Tran Thanh Man while receiving Secretary General of the Senate of Cambodia Oum Sarith in Hanoi on April 4.

The Vietnamese NA highly appreciates Cambodia’s chairmanship of the ASEAN and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) last year, which made positive contributions to the process of building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous ASEAN Community, Man said. -  Vietnam considers the World Bank a top development partner, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said in his reception for Country Director for WB Vietnam Carolyn Turk in Hanoi on April 4.

Quang appreciated the WB’s support for Vietnam through preferential loans amounting to 25 billion USD so far along with technical assistance and policy consultancy, which positively contributed to Vietnam’s socio-economic development since 1993 to now. Read full story

- Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang hosted Chair of the European Parliament (EP)'s Subcommittee on Human Rights Udo Bullmann in Hanoi on April 4.

 At the meeting, the two sides affirmed the importance of Vietnam-EU comprehensive partnership and cooperation; and assessed that the relationship in general as well as the ties between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the EP in particular have developed positively in recent years. - Delegates looked into Vietnam’s current situation and prospects at a recent workshop held by the Italian Communist Party (ICP) and the Italy-Vietnam Friendship Association (IVFA) in the Italian city of Milan.

- Credit ratings agency Fitch Ratings has affirmed Vietnam Electricity Northern Power Corporation's (EVNNPC) long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating at 'BB' with a positive outlook.

The rating reflects EVNNPC's 'bb' Standalone Credit Profile (SCP), which is assessed at the same level as that on the parent, Vietnam Electricity (EVN, BB/Positive), especially in the context of both EVN and EVNNPC facing a host of difficulties and challenges in balancing their finance last year. - A forum that aims to connect technology researchers, developers, and science and technology management agencies of Vietnam, with Laos’ government agencies and businesses opened in Vientiane on April 4.

The Tech-Innovation Vietnam-Laos 2023 forum was jointly held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications. Read full story

- The central province of Quang Tri has the highest rate of mine and bomb pollution in Vietnam with 81% of the province’s total land area littered with dangerous ordnance of this kind.

Since 1975, bombs and mines remaining after the war in the province have left more than 3,430 people dead and 5,100 injured, and about 31% of the victims are children, according to Quang Tri Mine Action Centre. Read full story

- A Japanese pottery exhibition themed “Yakishime - Earth Metamorphosis” opened  at the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi on April 4.
