- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam on August 24 presented appointment decisions to four officials as procurators of the Supreme People's Procuracy.

The four newly appointed procurators are Le Van Dong, born in 1975, a senior procurator and President of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy; Dao Thinh Cuong, born in 1967, a senior procurator and Director-General of the Supreme People's Procuracy's Department of Prosecution and Investigation of Economic and Corruption-related Crimes; Tran The Kinh, born in 1976, a senior procurator and Director-General of the Supreme People's Procuracy's Department for Supervision of the Settlement of Civil Cases; and Nguyen Duc Bang, born in 1974, a senior procurator and Head of the Supreme People's Procuracy's Investigation Agency. - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung gave a reception in Hanoi on August 24 to visiting Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna.

He expressed his belief that the visit would help maintain the positive momentum in bilateral relations, serve the interests of the two countries’ people, contributing to peace, stability and development in both regions. Authorised by the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Tien Hai said the Government had submitted dossiers on the establishment of the two cities in line with resolutions and conclusions of the Party Central Committee and the Politburo. Read full story

- The 16th National Assembly on August 24 approved a resolution reducing personal and corporate income taxes for individuals, business households and enterprises, with 480 out of 481 participating lawmakers voting in favour at its first extraordinary session.

The resolution, comprising two articles, provides for a 30% reduction in personal and corporate income tax for the 2026-2027 tax periods for individuals, business households and enterprises with annual revenue of no more than 10 billion VND (381,000 USD). Read full story

- Vietnam Airlines has officially launched a direct route between Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo, Sri Lanka, becoming the first Vietnamese carrier to operate direct flights to the South Asian island nation.
