Singapore (VNA) – Politburo member and Standing Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee's Secretariat Tran Cam Tu met with Chairman of the People’s Action Party (PAP) and Minister for Education of Singapore Desmond Lee on August 24 in the island-city state.
Tu conveyed greetings and best wishes from CPV leaders to the PAP leadership.
He congratulated Singapore on its development gains and credited the PAP’s consistent and effective leadership with transforming the country into a developed State with a dynamic economy, effective governance and an increasingly prominent global and regional position.
Vietnam-Singapore relations continue to grow as a friendly and particularly close partnership in Southeast Asia, built on high political trust, dynamic economic cooperation and close people-to-people bond, he said, adding that the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2025 has opened a new development phase and created a favourable framework for more substantive, extensive and effective cooperation.
According to him, CPV-PAP ties are an important pillar that helps foster the political foundation and provides strategic direction for bilateral relations.
Hailing the maintenance of high-level contacts and increased experience-sharing in Party building, national governance, policymaking, and workforce development, he thanked Singapore for supporting the training of mid- and senior-level CPV officials over the past decade.
He wished for deeper Party ties through more effective use of existing cooperation frameworks, particularly the Strategic Dialogue mechanism; more engagement and regular contacts between Party leaders, stronger exchanges on development visions, continued joint work in education, training and quality workforce development, and greater exchanges among mass organisations.
Lee, for his part, said he is impressed by Vietnam’s development successes and growing role and stature, and affirmed that the PAP attaches importance to and wants to deepen friendship and cooperation with the CPV.
Backing the guest’s proposals, he affirmed that the PAP will work closely with the CPV to advance comprehensive cooperation, including in science and technology and artificial intelligence, while maintaining exchanges and sharing on issues of mutual concern such as governance capacity, personnel training, leadership experience and national governance.
The two sides shared views on the goals, visions, and leadership and governance approaches of the two Parties, and welcomed the early launch of the CPV-PAP Strategic Dialogue mechanism, saying that it demonstrates strong commitment and high priority for bilateral ties and reflects deepening political trust between Vietnam and Singapore.
They agreed to make the strategic dialogue mechanism more effective and gradually develop it into a regular and substantive channel of exchange between Party leaders, while coordinating responses to rapidly evolving global and regional developments.
Host and guest expressed their belief that the first Strategic Dialogue would mark a new milestone in CPV-PAP relations, uphold the strategic orienting role of Party-to-Party relations, and create impetus for the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to develop more deeply, substantively and effectively./.
