- A resolution of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on the establishment of the Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Organisation for the 16th-tenure NA was announced at a ceremony in Hanoi on August 21, attended by NA President Tran Thanh Man.

Under the resolution, the Presidium comprises one chairperson, three vice chairpersons and one secretary-general. Politburo member and NA Permanent Vice President Do Van Chien has been appointed Chairperson of the Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Organisation for the 16th-tenure NA. Read full text

- Vietnam values its relationship with and wishes to work with the US to further develop their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a stable, substantive and long-term manner, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang said.

During an August 19-20 visit to the US, Giang met US Under Secretary of State Thomas DiNanno, Deputy National Security Adviser Andrew Baker, Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer, National Security Adviser to Vice President Cliff Sims, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia and ASEAN Affairs Hunt VanderToll. - Politburo member and Standing Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu will pay an official visit to Singapore and co-chair the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue on August 24-25, at the invitation of the Central Executive Committee of the People’s Action Party (PAP) of Singapore.

Speaking to the press ahead of the visit, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong said that the visit marks several first milestones, as it will be the first official visit to Singapore by a Standing Member of the CPV Central Committee’s Secretariat. It will also inaugurate the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue mechanism, which the two countries’ leaders agreed to establish during General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and President To Lam’s state visit to Singapore in May. - Viettel has secured the right to use three radio frequency bands in the Dominican Republic, marking its entry into the Caribbean nation and its 11th international telecom market as the Military Industry-Telecoms Group expands its overseas investment.

Viettel announced on August 21 that its subsidiary, Viettel Global Investment JSC (Viettel Global), had won the right to use 240 MHz of spectrum in the 700 MHz, 2300 MHz and C-Band frequencies for 4G/5G mobile networks for 20 years, under Resolution No. 073-2026 issued by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL). - More than 500 international buyers are expected to attend the Vietnam International Sourcing Expo 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City from September 3 to 5, offering Vietnamese businesses new opportunities to secure orders, attract investment and join global supply chains.

Connected through Vietnam’s overseas trade offices, the buyers are seeking suppliers across sectors including shipbuilding, plastics, food, seafood, agriculture, textiles, furniture, logistics and consumer goods. Read full text

- The Republic of Korea’s major online fashion platform Musinsa announced on August 21 that it is entering Vietnam, extending its Southeast Asian expansion after penetrating the Philippines and Indonesia.

Musinsa has already signed a partnership agreement with Au Chau Fashion and Cosmetics (ACFC), a unit of Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPPG), one of Vietnam’s largest distributors. Read full text

Vietnam, Russia seek to step up comprehensive strategic partnership

The two sides reviewed bilateral relations since the previous consultation in Hanoi in February 2025 and discussed concrete orientations and measures to address difficulties and promote cooperation between the two countries and their foreign ministries. They agreed to closely coordinate preparations for high-level delegation exchanges, particularly those scheduled for the remaining months of 2026.

Lawmakers debate real estate, budget, nuclear project changes

The draft revised real estate law is intended to turn Party and State guidelines into statute, codify tested resolutions that have been tested in practice, and shift power under the two-tier local administration model. It seeks to cut investment and business conditions, accelerate digital transformation, improve market transparency and predictability, strengthen market regulation, and clear practical bottlenecks to support a healthy property market.

Government proposes 30% income tax cut for small businesses

The personal income tax payable for the 2026 and 2027 tax years is proposed to be reduced by 30% for resident individuals earning income from business activities, provided their annual revenue does not exceed 10 billion VND (about 383,600 USD).

National Assembly adds three items to agenda of first extraordinary session

The NA Standing Committee recommends adding three items to the agenda: separating the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project into independent projects; mechanisms and policies for sea-reclamation urban development projects to be incorporated into the draft Law on Urban Development; and a draft NA resolution on reducing personal income tax and corporate income tax for individuals and businesses.
