Hanoi (VNA) - Viettel has secured the right to use three radio frequency bands in the Dominican Republic, marking its entry into the Caribbean nation and its 11th international telecom market as the Military Industry-Telecoms Group expands its overseas investment.

Viettel announced on August 21 that its subsidiary, Viettel Global Investment JSC (Viettel Global), had won the right to use 240 MHz of spectrum in the 700 MHz, 2300 MHz and C-Band frequencies for 4G/5G mobile networks for 20 years, under Resolution No. 073-2026 issued by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL).

Guido Gómez Mazara, Chairman of the Board of Directors of INDOTEL, said the partnership aims to provide Dominican people with high-quality telecom services, increase market competition and, importantly, optimise costs for consumers. The Dominican government expects Viettel’s entry to bring a breakthrough to the country’s telecom sector.

Viettel Global will complete procedures to establish a legal entity in the Dominican Republic and sign an official concession agreement with INDOTEL within 90 days. Once operational, the Caribbean country will become Viettel’s 11th overseas telecom market and its third market in the Americas.

Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group, said the successful bid marked a new step in the group’s international expansion strategy.

With more than 20 years of experience in international business, Viettel is pursuing a long-term investment model focused on building modern infrastructure, introducing new technologies and creating sustainable value for local people, businesses and economies, he said.

He added that the Dominican Republic - the second-largest economy in the Caribbean would be an important market in Viettel’s next growth cycle and help increase the contribution of its overseas investments to the group’s overall growth.

Viettel currently operates telecom businesses in 10 international markets and holds the leading market share in seven of them. In 2025, revenue from its overseas markets reached 3.34 billion USD, up 23.9%, marking the ninth consecutive year of double-digit growth and accounting for more than 40% of Viettel’s overall growth.

The group’s international business capabilities were also recognised at the 2026 International Business Awards in the US, announced last week. Viettel won more awards than any of the 3,800 participating businesses worldwide, with 21 of its 30 awards recognising achievements in foreign markets.

In the Dominican Republic, Viettel plans to build advanced telecom infrastructure, extending coverage to remote and isolated areas. It will also expand access to connectivity services and gradually develop a digital service ecosystem tailored to the needs of local people, businesses and organisations./.
