Washington, D.C., (VNA) - Vietnam values its relationship with and wishes to work with the US to further develop their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a stable, substantive and long-term manner, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang said.
During an August 19-20 visit to the US, Giang met US Under Secretary of State Thomas DiNanno, Deputy National Security Adviser Andrew Baker, Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer, National Security Adviser to Vice President Cliff Sims, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia and ASEAN Affairs Hunt VanderToll. He also held discussions with former US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink, a senior adviser at The Asia Group, and working sessions with the US-ASEAN Business Council and the Heritage Foundation.
Giang briefed US officials on Vietnam’s situation, saying that the country is entering a new development era and striving for double-digit economic growth. He added Vietnam has identified science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as key breakthroughs and drivers to renew its growth model, improve productivity and competitiveness, and ensure rapid and sustainable development.
He said Vietnam-US ties have maintained positive momentum following the February 2026 meeting between General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam and President Donald Trump, with regular exchanges and expanding cooperation across various fields.
Giang proposed the two sides coordinate on rolling out high-level agreements and tap further potential in economy, trade, investment, science and technology, energy and emerging fields, while continuing to address war aftermath issues.
US partners praised the development of bilateral ties in recent years, affirmed that they value the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, and expressed optimism about the relationship’s prospects.
They said strong Vietnam-US relations serve the interests of both peoples and contribute to regional peace, stability and development, and called for continued work to deepen ties and make them increasingly substantive and effective.
The hosts also lauded Vietnam’s development strides and acknowledged its growing role and stature in the region and the world, highlighting cooperation potential in economy, trade, investment, science and technology, digital transformation, energy and emerging industries.
US business representatives expressed confidence in Vietnam’s market prospects and pledged to continue pushing cooperative projects and expanding investment in Vietnam.
Both sides agreed to maintain exchanges and close coordination, contributing to stronger Vietnam-US relations and peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world./.
