Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Party General Secretary To Lam visited and extended greetings to the Party organisation, authorities, and people of the southern province of Tay Ninh on February 9, on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet).

According to a summary report on socio-economic performance and preparations for the Lunar New Year, Tay Ninh met all 14 key development targets in 2025, achieving economic growth of 9.52% and ranking 10th nationwide in economic size. The province has prepared more than 268,000 Tet gift packages worth over 225 billion VND (8.68 million USD) from the State budget. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse Le Thi Bich Tran hosted a banquet in Hanoi on February 9 evening for the diplomatic corps, ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet).

In his address, PM Chinh noted that 2025 was a year of breakthroughs amid unprecedented and unpredictable global developments. Difficulties intertwined with opportunities, though overall, challenges outweighed advantages. Yet amid these “headwinds”, peace, cooperation and development remained the dominant trend, serving as the common thread that connects all nations and the shared core values toward which the world continues to strive. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and its Japan–Mekong Economic Committee to step up coordination with ministries and relevant agencies of both countries to boost investment and enhance its quality, particularly through stronger technology transfer and support for Vietnamese firms to improve competitiveness and participate more deeply in Japanese global value chains.

Hosting a delegation of leaders from 37 JCCI member companies led by Keita Ishii, Chairman of the Japan–Mekong Economic Committee and Chairman and CEO of Itochu Corporation, on February 9, the PM said the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world continues to grow robustly. Japan remains one of Vietnam’s top investors, with 5,722 valid projects worth 78.9 billion USD as of January 31, 2026. Two-way trade in 2025 exceeded 51.43 billion USD for the first time, while Japan is also Vietnam’s largest labour cooperation partner. Read full story

- The Police Division under the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (DPO) has recently announced that Vietnam’s Formed Police Unit No. 1 (VNFPU1) has been officially approved for an upgrade from Level 2 to Level 3 under the UN Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System (PCRS).

It marks an important step forward in the unit’s capacity, credibility and sense of responsibility in global peacekeeping operations. Read full story

- Carriers have added 19 additional aircraft, four more than a year earlier, bringing the total number of planes in service during the peak Tet (Lunar New Year) period to about 216–218.

Uong Viet Dung, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), shared that to ensure smooth travel and keep traffic orderly and safe during Tet and the 2026 Spring Festival, the authority has made it as easy as possible for airlines to add more aircraft during the busy season. - Yen Tu Spring Festival 2026, the largest of its kind, is scheduled to open in the northern province of Quang Ninh on February 26, or the 10th day of the first lunar month, marking an important milestone following the July 2025 UNESCO World Cultural Heritage inscription of the Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac Complex of Monuments and Landscapes.

Ensuring that State power truly belongs to the people, with the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam serving as the decisive factor, remains the guiding principle for organising the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure.

Ballots and civic responsibility

All these efforts converge to create the significance of the national election day. Though small, each ballot carries the weight of civic responsibility. By selecting the right representatives and placing trust wisely, voters contribute to building a National Assembly and People’s Councils capable of making important decisions for the country and localities in the new tenure.
