- The Vietnam People’s Navy must act as the core force and a reliable source of support for fishermen to maintain their presence at sea while enhancing maritime cooperation and defence diplomacy with foreign militaries and navies, helping to firmly safeguard national sovereignty, sovereign rights, jurisdiction, and interests.

The demand was made by Party General Secretary To Lam, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission, at a ceremony held by the Naval Service under the Ministry of National Defence in northern Hai Phong city on February 28. At the event, the Navy was granted the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces title for the third time. Read full story

- Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chinh conducted on-site inspections of several major transport projects in the central region on March 1, including the Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon and Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon expressways, as well as the second runway and supporting facilities at Phu Cat Airport.

The Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon expressway, spanning 88km with a total investment of more than 21 trillion VND (807 million USD), traverses Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces and forms a critical segment of the eastern North–South expressway network under the 2021–2025 master plan. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged the central city of Da Nang to strive for double-digit growth based on green and digital transformation, science – technology, innovation, and efficient two-tier local administration.

Working with the municipal Party Committee's Standing Board on February 28, the PM highlighted the merger of Da Nang and Quang Nam province, noting it creates broader development space and stronger competitive advantages. Read full story

- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man, who also serves as Chairman of the National Election Council, has urged Nghe An to ensure voter lists are compiled “accurately, fully, properly and on schedule”, given the central province's large size and diverse conditions.

While leading a working delegation to inspect local preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term on February 28, the top legislator noted that Nghe An is the fourth largest locality nationwide by area, featuring mountainous, midland, delta and coastal regions. The province is home to about 500,000 ethnic minority people, which places high requirements on voter list compilation, convenient polling station arrangements, security and order maintenance, and communication efforts reaching every household and voter. - Vietnamese embassies in the Gulf on February 28 issued urgent notices advising Vietnamese citizens there to limit non-essential travel and avoid security-sensitive locations to ensure their safety.

The notices were issued amid increasingly complex military developments in the Middle East, particularly after Iran simultaneously launched retaliatory attacks on US military bases in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Kuwait. Read full story

- Facing escalating security tensions in the Middle East, the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel issued an urgent notice to the Vietnamese community in the country on February 28 morning, urging heightened vigilance and strict compliance with safety regulations set by local authorities.

The embassy noted that Israel launched pre-emptive strikes against several military targets and strategic infrastructure in Iran earlier that morning. Based on a situational assessment, the Home Front Command of Israel has decided to shift the nationwide operational status from "full activity" to "essential activity only". Read full story
