Hanoi (VNA) - The National Assembly (NA)’s forum on oversight for national development concluded on August 6 after a day of intensive discussions, outlining priorities to enhance the efficacy of legislature’s supervision as the country is stepping into a new era – that of the nation’s rise.
NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man opened the forum, providing key orientations for oversight activities, while Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long highlighted practical recommendations from the perspective of agencies under supervision.
The event featured two overview reports, two short documentaries, eight presentations, nearly 50 written contributions from experts and organisations, and about 20 in-depth discussions across two thematic sessions.
Concluding the forum, NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh stressed that the discussions had gone beyond reviewing practices and lessons learned, offering important proposals for lawmaking and policy planning. He said that oversight aims at refining legislation, improving governance, and driving socio-economic progress, stating thanks to the work, various socio-economic development policies have been issued, helping consolidate the market sentiment and investors’ confidence while removing bottlenecks for development.
The forum’s outcomes will serve as valuable input for the National Assembly’s future agendas, particularly in preparing oversight programmes for the upcoming 16th tenure and revising the Law on Oversight Activities of the NA, he said, adding the NA Standing Committee will compile a comprehensive report for Party, parliamentary, and government agencies to reference in legal amendments and policy formulation.
Delegates called for harmonious policies and identification of priorities to ensure focused oversight activities in the coming time, underscoring the need to make full use of time, opportunities, and advantages to ensure the NA works closely with the Government, sectors and branches in shaping and advancing the nation’s development in line with the Party’s orientations./.
