Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien on January 20 hosted a reception for Colonel Eugene Vincent Jeoffrey Dudley, the new South African Defense Attaché in Vietnam.

Chien expressed belief that the South African official will have a successful working tenure in Vietnam.

He noted that Vietnam and South Africa have shared effective defence partnership with active cooperation activities, especially in delegation exchange, consultation, military industry, personnel training, security protection, logistics and military medicine.

He proposed that the South African officer will continue to push for a deeper and more effective and practical defence collaboration between the two countries. The Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam will create best conditions for the official to complete his missions in Vietnam, Chien said.

For his part, Colonel Eugene Vincent Jeoffrey Dudley showed his delight at the progress of defence cooperation between South Africa and Vietnam over the years, and affirmed that South Africa is willing to cooperate with Vietnam in areas including English language training, military medicine, logistics and other fields of South Africa’s strengths.

He said he hopes to receive support from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence during his working term in Vietnam, thus contributing to fostering the defence ties between the two countries./.
