Petrovietnam backs education with timely, responsible support

Petrovietnam Chairman Le Manh Hung extended Vietnamese Teachers’ Day greetings and said the group is honoured to contribute to a project of historical and sectoral importance.

Tuyen Quang (VNA) – The Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with the northern province of Tuyen Quang and the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam) broke ground on the restoration of the education sector traditional site in Yen Nguyen commune on November 18 on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20).

The ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son; Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Cultural and Social Affairs Nguyen Dac Vinh; leaders of Tuyen Quang province; and representatives from Petrovietnam, including Chairman of the Members’ Council Le Manh Hung.

The site is being rebuilt on the former headquarters of the Ministry of National Education during the resistance war against French colonialists (1951–1954), where many foundational decisions shaping Vietnam’s modern education system were issued. Its restoration aims to preserve an important historical relic, honour the sector’s traditions and provide an inspiring educational space for teachers, pupils and visitors. The site is also expected to support local study tours and promote historical values in Tuyen Quang.

Addressing the event, the Minister of Education and Training said the project forms part of activities marking the education sector’s forthcoming 80th anniversary. Despite wartime hardship, the Ministry of National Education operated from Khuon Tru (Tuyen Quang), laying key foundations for today’s education system. He stressed that the restored site will serve not only as a place of remembrance but also as a cultural and educational space, with an exhibition house and a shared activity area for pupils and residents.

He thanked Petrovietnam for fully funding the project, highlighting the group’s timely and responsible support for national education. He also recognised the efforts of local authorities and residents in safeguarding the site, emphasising joint responsibility for preserving its value.

Recalling the site’s role between 1951 and 1954, he noted that Petrovietnam’s support reflects its commitment to national development. Over nearly 64 years, the group has grown into one of Vietnam’s leading enterprises, contributing about 10% of State budget revenue and national GDP growth, while actively supporting education and health care through its social welfare programmes.

At the ceremony, Minister Son presented gifts to 40 teachers in difficult circumstances in Tuyen Quang. Petrovietnam and its subsidiary PVEP awarded scholarships to four schools in Yen Nguyen commune.

On the same day, Petrovietnam inaugurated a STEM education practice room at Le Quy Don Secondary School in Tuyen Quang under the STEM Innovation Petrovietnam programme. The facility will offer pupils improved access to modern learning models, foster creativity and encourage interest in science and technology, particularly for students in mountainous areas./.
