Hanoi (VNA) – Ferdinand Marcos Jr., son of former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, on October 5 announced his plan to run for the presidency of the Philippines in the upcoming May 2022 elections.

In a live broadcast on social media, the 64-year-old politician voiced his belief that he will succeed in the important event.

Marcos Jr was in second place behind incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter, Sara Duterte-Carpio, in a recent PulseAsia Research survey of voter preference for president, though she has denied plans to run.

Philippine boxing great Manny Pacquiao and celebrity mayor Francisco Domagoso have confirmed they will seek the top job.
