Phu Quoc airport to be operational this year

The first phase of construction of Phu Quoc International Airport in the southern province of Kien Giang is expected to be completed by mid-December this year, the provincial People’s Committee has announced.
The first phase of construction of Phu Quoc InternationalAirport in the southern province of Kien Giang is expected to becompleted by mid-December this year, the provincial People’s Committeehas announced.

The construction of the airport beganin November, 2008, on a site of over 900 hectares in Duong To communein Phuc Quoc district. It will cost a total of 16.2 trillion VND withhalf of which, between now and 2020, coming from the Southern AirportsCorporation.

With a 3,000 metre runway, the airport,once completed, will provide services to Boeing 777 and Boeing 747-400super jets, as well as similar aircraft.

It helps PhuQuoc make full use of its strong points and economic potential,especially in maritime and island tourism and trade and turn into a topeco-tourism area in the country and the region.-VNA
