PM meets Myanmar, Indonesian Presidents on 24th ASEAN Summit sidelines

President U Thein Sein thanked Vietnam for positively supporting the country in performing its ASEAN Chairmanship.

He affirmed that Myanmar always attaches much importance to the traditional friendship with Vietnam .

Along with enhancing exchanges of delegations and high level meetingsand people-to-people contacts, Myanmar will create favourableconditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest in the country,especially in areas of oil and gas, banking and tourism, striving for atwo-way trade of 500 million USD by 2015, he said.

The Myanmar leader said he hopes the eighth meeting of the JointCommittee on bilateral cooperation of the two countries as well as theseventh political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries willbe held soon.

During the meeting, the two sides expressed their delight at the growing bilateral ties over the past years.

They highly valued their affiliation at regional and internationalforums, especially sub-regional cooperation frameworks such as theAyeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy, theCambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam, the Greater Mekong Subregion and theEast-West Economic Corridor.

They agreed to workwith other ASEAN member countries to boost solidarity and build an ASEANCommunity by 2015 while raising ASEAN common voice on regional andinternational matters, including the East Sea issue.

During meeting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, PM Dungcongratulated the country on the successful parliament election recentlyand spoke highly of the role that the President plays in elevatingbilateral ties to strategic partnership in last June.

The two sides agreed to actively implement the plan of actions in the2014-2018 period and hold the second meeting of their Joint Committee in2014, while preparing for activities to celebrate the 60 thanniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2015.

Bothleaders said they are glad at the two country’s close coordination atregional and international forums, especially at the ASEAN and UnitedNations.

They pledged to continue working closelywith other ASEAN members in successfully building an ASEAN Community ofsolidarity, consolidating ASEAN’s central role in regional cooperationmechanism.

Regarding new developments in the EastSea , the Indonesian President expressed concern over the risingtension in the sea, holding that all disputes should be settledpeacefully without military intervention.

Indonesiais willing to coordinate with Vietnam and relevant parties inseeking suitable solutions to the matter, he affirmed.-VNA
