Hanoi (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang on December 29 hosteda ceremony to honour 37 units and 11 individuals for their outstanding contributionsto local social welfare activities in 2017.

Inthe year, nearly 262 billion VND (11.5 million USD) was subscribed the VietnamFatherland Front’s chapters at all levels for local social security programmes.

Themoney was used to build about 800 houses and repair 350 others for poor peopleand social policy beneficiaries, and construct dozens of social works.

Thesame day, the obstetric and pediatric hospital of the Mekong Deltaprovince of Soc Trang received an ambulance worth 1.5 billion VND (66,000 USD) donatedby the Soc Trang Lottery Company. This is the 13th ambulance thecompany has donated to local hospitals.

In2017, the company funded the building of 167 houses, worth up to 5 billion VND(220,000 USD) for local poor households and policy beneficiaries.

The associationof the Soc Trang Elderly Association in collaboration with the SocTrang fellow-country people in Ho Chi Minh City presented 250 giftpackages to local disadvantaged elderly people on the occasion of upcomingLunar New Year (Tet) festival.

Thelatter also gave Tet gifts to poor households and needy children in Thuan Hoacommune, Chau Thanh district, Soc Trang province.-VNA

UNFPA, KOICA pledge continued support to Vietnam to eliminate gender-based violence
