Seoul (VNA) – The Republic of Korea's agricultural exports to the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) topped 680 million USD in the first half of this year, making the bloc the biggest importer of RoK farm produce, according to the Yonhap news agency.

This was the first time ASEAN had replaced Japan as the biggest importer of the RoK’s farm goods on a half-yearly basis.

Data from the Korea Rural Economic Institute showed that the RoK’s farm exports to Japan stood at 670 million USD in the first half.

In the January-June period, the country’s overall exports of farm produce rose 8.5 percent on year to 3.5 billion USD.

Meanwhile, its imports in the sector gained 9.5 percent on-year to 17.7 billion USD in the same period.

The United States accounted for 27 percent of RoK imports of agricultural products, followed by ASEAN with 15.3 percent and China with 12.7 percent, according to the data.-VNA
