Russia successfully launched spaceship Soyuz TMA-17 from the Baikonur Cosmosdrome in Kazakhstan on December 21, carrying a new crew to the International Space Station (ISS).

The space ship is scheduled to join the ISS at 1h58’ Moscow time on December 23.

The crew, including commander Oleg Kotov from Russia , Thimoty Crimer from the US , and Soichi Noguchi from Japan , will stay on board until May, 2010 in the ISS.

They are assigned with a series of tasks, such as unloading cargoes from three Russian space cargo ships called Progress and walking out into space.

The astronauts will also perform about 50 various research experiments and take part in an installation of a new Russian module, which is to be delivered to the space station by May, 2010./.
