Russian police detain 1,200 Vietnamese

The Vietnamese Embassy in Russia has established a working group to solve the case of 1,200 Vietnamese living in Moscow detained by local police on suspicion of being in the country illegally.

The detentions followed a raid of Moscow markets on July 31.

On receiving the information, the embassy immediately contacted andmet authorised agencies of Russia and Moscow to deal with thismatter pursuant to legal proceedings.

Accordingto the embassy, Russian police are investigating the detainees to verifytheir identity and classify their residence status.

People found to have all legal papers will be released. Those without papers will be deported.

Sources from the embassy said Russia’s authorised agencies willcontinue coordinating with the Vietnamese Embassy to solve the issuewithout affecting the lives and businesses of Vietnamese abiding byRussian laws.-VNA
