Hanoi (VNA) - Chairwoman of the Federal Council of Russia ValentinaIvanovna Matvienko returned to her home country on February 22, concluding herVietnam visit from February 20-22 at the invitation of National AssemblyChairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

During herstay, Matvienko visited Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and PresidentTran Dai Quang, met Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and NA Chairwoman Ngan andco-chaired a seminar on strengthening partnerships between Vietnamese andRussian localities.

Duringmeetings, both sides expressed delight at the development of their comprehensivestrategic partnership and believed that the visit would contribute to deepeningbilateral ties.

At talks, toplegislator Ngan and her guest agreed on the regular exchange of delegationsfrom the Vietnamese NA and the Russian Federal Council, which they said, wouldmake it easier to expand bilateral cooperation.

Friendshipparliamentarians’ groups of the two countries will play an important role infurther boosting bilateral ties. The two legislatures will provide support toaccelerate links across culture-education, economy, trade, energy, oil and gas,agriculture and tourism while strengthening the supervision of implementingcooperation agreements between the two nations.

At theseminar co-hosted by the National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations,the Foreign Ministry and Russian embassy in Vietnam, the two sides noted growingties between localities in recent years.

They agreedto establish a localities working group mechanism.

Vietnam andRussia will take turns holding meetings of the group, contributing to thebilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.-VNA

NA leader hosts Belgian King in Hanoi

To further strengthen Vietnam-Belgium relations, especially parliamentary cooperation, both sides agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels, particularly between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. They also pledged to share legislative and supervisory experience, coordinate positions in international organisations, support each other’s candidacies for UN bodies, and effectively implement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
