Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, and UNESCO Office in Hanoi held a seminar on February 22 to debate marine spatial planning towards a sustainable green economy.

Speaking at the event, Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands Ta Dinh Thi said the event is part of activities under the second annual conference of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO held in Hanoi.

Participants suggested effectively realising the marine spatial planning towards a sustainable green economy, the Vietnam’s strategy on the sustainable development of marine economy till 2020 with a vision to 2045, and the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

They agreed on a proposal to support the building of a marine spatial and ocean governance planning in Vietnam.

Discussions on capacity improvement, data system, and communications in ocean governance were also put on the table.

The event afforded policymakers and management agencies a chance to acquire international experience, discuss existing challenges and approach to the planning.-VNA
