Shrimp exports surge in Q1

In March alone, 178million USD worth of shrimps were shipped abroad, an increase of almost29 percent over February and a year-on-year increase of 13.4 percent.

Shrimp exports to leading markets like Japan , US, mainland Chinaand Hong Kong have achieved positive growth rates of between 13-26percent, according to VASEP.

Exports to Australia inthe first quarter soared to 20 million USD, or double the value achievedin the same period last year, and the outlook is promising, theassociation said.

In the first quarter, Japan 's shrimpimport from Vietnam hit its highest value at 113.5 million USD, up17.3 percent year-on-year. The US was the second biggest importer at90.2 million USD, up 9.2 percent, and the EU came in third at 59.7million USD, down 21.8 percent.

Shrimp exports to thethree largest markets accounted for more than 60 percent of thecountry's total shrimp export value in the first quarter.-VNA
