Singapore Power to build charging stations in Indonesia
Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has said Singapore Power will participate in developing infrastructure of electric vehicle (EV) in Indonesia.
Accordingly, the Singapore
government-owned electricity and gas distribution company will work closely
with local power producer, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), to build around
500 charging stations in 2020.
According to acting CEO of
PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani, the charging stations are developed to meet the
needs of ride-hailing provider Grab, which will start the pilot project.
PLN will collaborate with 20
companies, which are public transportation providers and electric car
manufacturers.
Coordinating Minister for
Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan added that PLN should
focus on preparing EV charging stations next year so that EV operations
could begin in 2021.
Earlier, PLN and two digital players Grab and GoJek
signed a memorandum of understanding to build a network of EV charging stations
in the country. The deal also involves taxi operator PT Blue Bird Indonesia,
Chinese automaker BYD Auto, regional public bus operator PT Transjakarta, and
automaker PT Mobil Anak Bangsa.
Grab Indonesia’s President Ridzki Kramadibrata said the partnership is part of a plan to develop the country’ electric vehicle ecosystem which Japan’s SoftBank Group committed an investment of 2 billion USD./.
