State President hosts Lao Vice President

State President Luong Cuong thanked the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government, and the Lao Front for National Construction for sending condolences over the passing of former State President Tran Duc Luong.

Hanoi (VNA) – State President Luong Cuong on May 25 received Lao Vice President Pany Yathotou, who was in Vietnam to pay tribute to and attend the memorial service for former State President Tran Duc Luong.

President Cuong thanked the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government, and the Lao Front for National Construction for sending condolences over the passing of the former State President.

He also expressed appreciation for the presence of the Lao delegation led by Vice President Pany Yathotou, saying it demonstrated the profound, close-knit ties between the two Parties, States, and peoples.

Cuong emphasised that during his lifetime, Tran Duc Luong always showed special attention to the Lao revolution and made tremendous contributions to the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Cuong congratulated the Lao Party, State, and people on their significant and comprehensive achievements across various fields, expressing confidence that the neighbouring country will gain even greater successes and successfully organise the 12th National Party Congress.

The leader stressed that the bilateral relationship has been increasingly fostered in recent times, achieving many important results.


He emphasised key points in advancing Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the coming time, including the effective implementation of high-level agreements between the two Parties and States, as well as the outcomes of visits by high-ranking leaders.

For her part, Pany Yathotou affirmed that Laos always remembers and appreciates the deep affection and significant contributions of former State President Tran Duc Luong to consolidating and strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

She commended the great and comprehensive achievements that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam have made, noting Vietnam’s increasingly elevated position and role on the international stage.

Pany Yathotou also expressed deep gratitude for Vietnam’s sincere, effective, and timely support for Laos over the years and agreed with Cuong’s remarks on major aspects of bilateral cooperation.

The Party, State, and people of Laos will do their utmost together with their Vietnamese counterparts to preserve and foster the special solidarity, she affirmed./.
