Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam and Egypt should continue their coordination and mutual support at multilateral and international forums, in line with each country’s interests and in respect for international law, recommended State President Luong Cuong while receiving outgoing Egyptian Ambassador Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi Salama in Hanoi on July 1.

Expressing his appreciation for the diplomat’s contributions to the bilateral relations, the leader noted that in the past six decades, the ties have grown steadily, but still fall short of the sides’ demand and potential. He called for enhanced delegation exchanges, especially high-level visits, and stronger cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, investment, defence, and security.

Acknowledging Egypt’s role in the Middle East and North Africa, President Cuong stressed Vietnam’s wish to further promote and enhance the bilateral cooperation in a more substantive and effective manner, serving the interests of the two countries' people, contributing to regional stability and development, and matching the strong bilateral political relationship.

He also expressed hope that regardless of future roles, the ambassador will continue to foster goodwill towards Vietnam and serve as a bridge for bilateral people-to-people exchanges and cooperation.

For her part, Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi Salama expressed gratitude for the friendship and support extended to her during her term by the Vietnamese Party, State, and people. She noted Egypt’s pride in being among the first countries in the region to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, recalling that late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh visited her home country several times, leaving a lasting impression and admiration among locals.

She congratulated Vietnam on the achievements it has recorded in recent years and expressed her confidence that with the ongoing administrative restructuring, the country will achieve further development and prosperity.

The diplomat said the two nations have potential to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, culture, science, and technology. She also highlighted the sides’ shared goals in the field of digital transformation, economic innovation, and defence-security./.
