Bangkok (VNA) - Lieutenant General Wirayut Raksilp, Commander of the 2nd Army Area and head of the Northeast border narcotics control force, has deployed a special task force to conduct reconnaissance against drug trafficking in Mukdahan province, after receiving reports of such activities.
As a result, the special task force, spotted a long-tail boat moving from Laos into Thailand, which dropped a suspicious object on the shore before hastily leaving.
After monitoring the area for another two hours without spotting anyone retrieving the cargo, the task force approached and discovered two sacks containing methamphetamine, totaling around 190,000 pills. The seized drugs were then taken to Mukdahan city’s police headquarters for further investigation.
Earlier, Thailand’s Defence Minister ordered the military to strengthen inter-sectoral coordination to intensify the crackdown on drug crimes.
This move comes as Thai authorities have repeatedly detected and intercepted large-scale drug trafficking, particularly in border areas along the Mekong River./.
