Thailand’s former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and former Deputy PM Suthep Thaugsuban joined the anti-amnesty protest.
The ruling Pheu Thai Party has made a proposal to pass the bill granting a pardon to crimes related to political unrest since 2004.
Demonstrators held that those who would benefit from the bill include former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra, who was sentenced in absentia to a two-year jail term by the Thai Supreme Court over a Bangkok land grab scandal, and still remains in self-exile in Dubai.
The bill was adopted by the House of Representatives on November 1 and is expected to be submitted for the Senate’s approval on November 11.-VNA
