Hanoi (VNA) - General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse will pay a state visit to Vietnam from January 26 to 27.
The visit is made at the invitation of To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and his spouse, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 23./.
Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane hopes the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will continue to set sound directions, guiding Vietnam towards faster and more sustainable development.
Vice Chairman of Champasak province Somboun Hueangvongsa spoke highly of the leadership and direction of the CPV in driving national economic growth and enhancing the country’s international competitiveness.
Regardless of rapid and complex changes in global and regional landscapes, Vietnam and Laos will maintain close coordination to further consolidate and preserve their rare relationship of special solidarity and trust.

Party leader To Lam showed his belief that with unity, resolve, and a shared vision, Vietnam will successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, building a stronger nation that continues to rise with confidence and responsibility on the global stage.
In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Professor Pan Jin’e, a senior researcher at the Academy of Marxism under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), said General Secretary Lam is a top leader well suited to Vietnam’s development requirements in the new era.
Vietnam now stands at the threshold of a new development era, driven by strong aspirations and substantial potential. The 14th Party Congress is, therefore, of decisive importance for the country’s future transformations, particularly amid an international environment marked by uncertainty and volatility. While this phase may be among the most complex of the renewal process, it also presents a critical opportunity for Vietnam to break through and evolve from an “Asian tiger” into a regional “dragon.”
Tran Sy Thanh, Politburo member, Chairman of the Inspection Commission of the 13th Party Central Committee, was elected Chairman of the commission for the 14th tenure, assisted by nine deputy chairpersons.
For the 2026–2030 period, key targets for Vietnam include average annual GDP growth of at least 10%; per-capita GDP of about 8,500 USD by 2030; manufacturing and processing accounting for roughly 28% of GDP; the digital economy contributing around 30% of GDP.
The report adopted at the 14th National Congress successfully integrates the practical experience of socialist construction in Vietnam with the CPV’s leadership theory, highlighting both reform and leadership characteristics, said Professor Xu Liping, Director of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS).

The merger of provincial-level administrative units to build a lean, efficient and effective political system, together with apparatus reform and ambitious development targets, has laid the groundwork for the Congress to become one of the most important in the Party’s history, said Professor Nguyen Thi Lien Hang.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam highly values US President Trump’s efforts to promote peace, cooperation and prosperity worldwide, and stands ready to participate in the Board of Peace as a founding member.
