Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese National Assembly will closely cooperate with the National Assembly and Senate of Cambodia to further expand and improve the efficiency of collaboration between the two governments as well as the two legislatures at regional and international parliamentary forums, the top legislator has said.
At a reception for Second Vice President of the Cambodian NA Khuon Sudary in Hanoi on March 22, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said the two sides will work together to supervise the implementation of international treaties and agreements signed by the two governments to help effectively realise their cooperation deals.
The legislatures will exchange experience in gender equality-related affairs, including issues regarding female NA deputies, she said, adding that young parliamentarians will also share their expertise in the time ahead.
The NA Chairwoman congratulated Cambodia on its successful organisation of the general election in 2018, and the Cambodian NA on its successful hosting of the 27th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-27) in Siem Reap in early 2019, contributing to raising the country’s position in the international arena.
Ngan suggested that Vietnam and Cambodia should closely coordinate with each other when Vietnam assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship, and Cambodia hosts the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting in 2020.
She stressed that the Vietnamese legislature and people are delighted at the great, comprehensive achievements the Cambodian people have reaped over the past years.
In reply, Khuon Sudary said Cambodia is making concerted efforts to step up national development to bring prosperity and wealthy to its people.
Cambodia always keeps in mind the great support of the Vietnamese people during the past struggle against the Pol Pot genocidal regime, helping the country revive and develop, she said.
She described the state visit to Cambodia by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong last month as a manifestation of the continuous development of the traditional bilateral ties.
The Cambodian NA will pay more attention to and create more favourable conditions for Vietnamese-Cambodians to live in the country and contribute to local socio-economic development, while ensuring their legal status, she said.
Both leaders applauded the outcomes of the border demarcation and marker planting, which have completed about 84 percent of the workload.
Ngan said the two sides need to make greater efforts to soon fulfill the task.
She also urged competent agencies of the two countries to closely coordinate with each other in order to ensure quality and efficiency of the works which are presented by the Vietnamese Party, State and people to the Cambodian NA’s Secretariat and committees.-VNA
