Kyle.B. Bond, Director of the Laboratory Programme at the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Vietnam has been honoured with the insignia “For the Health of the People” of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen handed over the award to the expert at a ceremony in Hanoi on December 12.

Xuyen praised Kyle’s exceptional contributions to Vietnam’s health sector, especially in improving the laboratory system, saying that these helped save resources and expenses for patients while bettering the quality of medical checks and treatment services and reducing the hospital overload.

Starting his work in Vietnam in 2008, Kyle has supported and coordinated the US CDC’s programme to improve the quality of laboratory service in the country.

Through the programme, a system for managing the quality of laboratory service was established together with two control centres of laboratory quality at Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University

The programme, in collaboration with Vietnamese organisations and partners, helped 10 laboratories at Bach Mai Hospital, the Central Paediatric Hospital and the Nhi Dong 1 Hospital to earn ISO 15185 quality standard certification.-VNA
