Venezuelan guerillas joining Nguyen Van Troi campaign remembered

The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela has recently organised a ceremony to pay tribute to Venezuelan guerillas who participated in Nguyen Van Troi campaign in 1964.

Buenos Aires (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela has recentlyorganised a ceremony to pay tribute to Venezuelan guerillas who participated in NguyenVan Troi campaign in 1964.

The campaign was organised by Venezuelan guerillas whoabducted US lieutenant colonel Michael Smolen on October 9, 1964 in an effortto leverage the release of young Vietnamese patriot Nguyen Van Troi, who hadbeen sentenced to death by the US and Saigon regime for his assassinationattempt on US Defence Secretary Robert McNamara.

However, three days after the Caracas guerillas released theUS hostage on October 12, the US and the Saigon administration killed NguyenVan Troi in order to suppress the emerging anti-US movement in Vietnam andaround the globe.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Le Viet Duyen expressedhis profound gratitude for guerillas of Venezuela’s Armed Forces of NationalLiberation (FALN), affirming that their action demonstrated the Venezuelanpeople’s support for Vietnam’s revolution.

He shared that the Vietnamese Party and State have always paid attention to martyrs and their families, invalids and those who renderedservice to the revolution./.
