Hanoi (VNA) – A Vietnam – Austria high-tech and innovation forum will be held in Vienna on May 16, marking an important advance in technological and innovation cooperation between the two countries.
Jointly organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Austria, the National Innovation Centre (NIC) and the Austrian Economic Chambers, the forum will see the online presence of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung.
The forum provides a platform for the two countries to share experiences and advantages in emerging technologies, innovation strategies and digital transformation as Vietnam aims to become a high-income economy by 2045. This is also a step to implement the Politburo’s Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in the development of science and technology, innovation, national digital transformation, and Resolution 68 on the private sector development.
Leading tech companies will participate in the forum, including UNIDO, TTTech, Infineon, Technologies Austria, Siconnex, Dynatrace, FPT, VNPT, Sovico, and Genetica, to discuss artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor, cybersecurity, quantum technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), biotechnology, and robotics.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang emphasised the importance of the forum in implementing technological diplomacy and innovation policies under Resolution 57 and the Government's action plan.
The innovation-focused forum, the first of its kind to be held in Europe, is designed to provide updates about the two countries’ sci-tech and innovation policies while creating a platform for connecting their tech firms.
NIC Deputy Director Vo Xuan Hoai said that the co-organisation of the Vietnam – Austria high-tech and innovation forum is one of important activities in the strategy to promote international cooperation in innovation, aiming to support the Vietnamese business community in accessing advanced technology, expanding markets, and attracting high-quality investment.
Hoai emphasised the role of the NIC in bridging the innovation ecosystems of the two countries. This collaboration contributes to the development of core technologies, knowledge transfer, and the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises amid the strong digital transformation and international integration.
There is significant potential to strengthen collaboration with Austria in the fields of technology and innovation. Vietnam is working towards becoming a regional innovation hub, with a focus on semiconductor, AI, the IoT, digital transformation, and green transition.
Austria is recognised as a global leader in researching, developing, and applying core technologies, source technologies, and innovation. It has achieved significant advancements in semiconductor, AI, and electronics industries, which have played a key role in shaping the foundation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The forum will serve as both a bridge and a strategic dialogue channel with the business community and leading technology partners in Europe, thereby helping diversify trade-investment relations and increasing the depth of cooperation in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation of Vietnam.
The event will also create conditions for businesses of both sides to tap into opportunities for technology transfer and high-quality human resources development, gradually enabling Vietnamese enterprises to engage more deeply in the global value chains of the semiconductor and strategic technology industries.
In addition, it will also be a chance for Vietnam to affirm its position as a strategic destination for Austrian and European technology "eagles", helping make a new stride in technology development and turn the country into an important link in the global innovation map./.
